 This is a teaser for the novel I am working on. My goal is to start posting chapters at the beginning of March.

"The Lightless" Teaser
                Abby Park slipped the intricate ring from her finger and let it fall to the ground. She was three larges steps from the portal to earths dimension and her heart was pounding in her chest. Despite the king's orders and her ex's pleading she had made the decision to leave.  She had to find the other member of the ancient oath made long ago by their ancestors. And yet she hesitated. Breaking the law was harder than she thought it would be. She shifted her thoughts to her motivation and her brow furrowed. No one will care about breaking the law if everyone is dead. I have to save them. She smiled in spite of her nerves. "Off to save the world." She said with a hint of sarcasm. It sounded so cliché. Then she signed deeply and began to walk.  Finally she sighed deeply and began to walk. Suddenly there was a flash of movement to her right and before she could react two men in matching uniforms blocked her path.
                "Going somewhere?" one said hotly. Abby tilted her head to the side and raised one eyebrow.
                "That's the most rhetorical question you have ever asked me Jake." She said with a hint of spice in her voice. She started to walk toward them and smiled sweetly. "I suppose-" but she never finished. Instead she dove to one side and ran past the two men. Without hesitation she jumped into the space of glowing light. She felt an instant jerking sensation and then all went black.

       This is the short story I wrote as an exercise. My brother and sister-in-law started a facebook group where we each write a short story once a week with a different theme. "There is always another dish" I love being a mother and I love being a wife I feel especially blessed by all the people in my life. My daughter who keeps a smile on my face, And keeps me trim by always playing chase. My husband who works so I can stay at the house, Something that has been my dream since I was knee high to a mouse. I have few complaints about the life I lead, I am blessed in every possible way, I concede. But I must say just one thing about all of this When I start the dishwasher there is ALWAYS another dish.
