"The Lightless" Chapter Four

Chapter Four             Shawn bit his lip and clenched his fist. The letter in his hand was the very thing he had been afraid of since he came to Earth two years earlier. The first phrase said it all and he read it over and over again, feeling his anger building up like a kinked hose. He reached for his notebook and grabbed a pen. Chapter Three-             Abby stood and walked to the corner of her street and looked around the other side. She checked her watch then walked back and sat down on the steps of the apartment building behind her. She shook her head still not sure if her plan was all that great. She realized that if Joshua tried to surprise her by bringing dinner there she would have to explain that this wasn't really her apartment building. I had to tell him I lived somewhere , she thought as she checked her watch again. He said he would be there a little before seven and it was six fifty five now. She ran over the questions she had prepared again and again in her mind hoping she could deliver them in an unrehearsed way. Chapter two                 Shawn rounded another bend in the long corridor.   Someday , he though, I will live in the royal chambers and my subjects can spend their days walking the halls to come to me . He picked up his pace as he looked at his watch and rounded the final bend. The king's chambers were at the far end of the castle and were extensive and exotic. Shawn again reminded himself of his goal as he knocked gently on the gold embellished door.                 "Enter." He heard the king say.
