First blog post and why
Hello
everyone! My name is Melissa and I like to write. And when I say I like to
write I really mean I LOVE to write. And when I say 'write' I really mean I
like to write EVERYTHING- from song lyrics to fantasy novels and most
everything in between. And though I do not profess to be a professional, I am
excited to share the knowledge and tips and personal preferences I have
accumulated over the years. So without further delay I will get to my first
real blog post.
Write what you love!
So why
are you writing? Well I write for expression and for the shear love of creation.
And with that being my motivation I write more and I write better. I suppose if
you are looking to make a lot of money you could focus on writing something you
think will sell well, but if your real focus is on money maybe you should be a
doctor or a lawyer. Besides most of the people who made it big in writing wrote
what they wanted to write and in just so happened to be what everyone else wanted
to read.
What
should you write? I write what I read. That's not to say if I am reading The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe I
write about Narnia, but rather it inspires me to think outside the realm of our
world and create new and different characters, places and things.
When do
you write? I write when I can think clearly and focus. This usually means late
at night or whenever my baby is napping. Some people find it best to schedule a
specific time to write and even a specific amount of time. I find it better to
make a word or page goal per day but some people are bulk writers for example
they find it easiest to write 5,000 words on Saturday instead of 1,000 each day
of the week. But the bottom line is whatever keeps you writing is the best
thing for you, figure out what that is and stick to it.
How do
you write? =) Obviously there are many methods to writing, and they can all be
successful. My goal with this blog is to explore each different method so you
can decide which one works for you.
